Mastering the Art of Digestion

Digest with an Inner Smile!

I was inspired to write a short post on the power of digesting.  We are speaking of digesting our nutrients but also our lives. These concepts go hand in hand in my book. I am not here to talk about enzymes or hydrochloric acid pills to help with your digestion. And certainly not heart burn pills or anti acids..no way jose:)   What I want to talk to you about is how to reclaim your power to digest powerfully. I want you to take your awareness to your belly right now with out any judgement. Is your belly clenched? Are you having long slow deep belly breaths as you invest quality time here in the Sacred Backyard? I want you to get in  touch with what is happening in your belly region.  Our stomach point is actually in that lowest point of the rib cage in our center.  The stomach point often test weak in clients and this is due to many different factors that we shall save for another post. For now let’s travel further down to the large intestine, these points are on either side of your belly button.  Here we can start to let the muscles relax and take some deep belly breaths. Now we are starting to soften up here so that as food comes down it will ultimately digest properly leaving nutrients to be absorbed and waste to be excreted in the bowel movements shortly there after.

As we bring more awareness to this area we really can start to see how it relates to our emotions and thoughts. When we sit in meditation we are often way more aware of the belly breath. What about when we are in traffic or going thru something stressful? Often the belly is tightening up to some degree and it takes our consciousness to become more still and aware to  what is happening inside us.  What are we thinking and feeling while we are eating? Are we engaging in other activities while eating?  Being present while eating assists us to maintain connection with our bodies and our minds so that we can be in a place of peace while eating.

What about exercises that can help us with digesting more powerfully? We can do some really amazing belly yoga, here is what you can do:

  1. Stand with your legs shoulder with apart and bend slightly to put your hands on your thighs.
  2. Next take a big belly breath and let all the air out letting the belly hollow out.
  3. Once this happens you can begin to pump the stomach up near the rib cage.
  4. Do this a few times then take a big breath in again and continue for several rounds.
  5. Do this on an empty stomach  or 2 or more hours after a meal.

Giving our stomachs a well deserved break is also an incredible way to re-build your own hcl levels and let the stomach and organs process the foods coming in.  You do this with your weekly water fast, it gives the body time to process things and gives us greater connection to our body parts. It can also give us more mindful awareness as we eat. Speaking of another option is to exist on blended foods for a time. I love to do this, it gives me pleasure and great joy to utilize my energy in other creative ways instead of digesting a large meal. We can also skip breakfast and drink lots of fresh clean water with lemon or raw fermented apple cider vinegar. We can make an herbal tea and around mid morning our digestive fire has begun to wake up ready to assimilate.  Here we might do some liquid or blended nutrition. Lunch is our biggest meal and waiting until true hunger is upon us helps to make sure digestive juices are ready to process the foods. The Apple Cider Vinegar also assists us with producing hydrochloric acid in our bellies. This could be sipped slowly with the meal or in b/t meals too.

Hot peppers are a great way to build internal heat in the body if you are eating living foods, I like to mix them into my morning smoothie or green juice. Juicing habanero peppers is amazing. Adding cayenne pepper to your lemon water is a great way to get circulation flowing and once again build internal heat.

Chinese herbs can also build internal heat. Ginseng & Longan are great fro activating the Qi and tonifying the spleen.

When we are digesting our food well we are often digesting our life well, we are taking responsibility for our life and then assimilating that which serves us and letting go of that which does not.

As always, thanks for stopping by the Sacred Backyard, it’s nice being with you!

The Importance of Proper Food Combining

In order to assimilate and utilize our food for fuel proper food combining is a wonderful tool to guide us. When food is broken down into nutrients with ease in our stomach we can be sure that the digestive tract is able to easily break down food converting it into usable energy.  When proper food combining takes place we know that fats are broken down into fatty acids, carbohydrates are converted into Glucose or usable energy and protein transforms into amino acids. With these building blocks we can build lean, clean, strong bodies. They we are able to build muscle, hair, skin and bones and re-manufacture our own metabolic enzymes and hormones.
If you start to incorporate proper food combining you may notice weight loss, more energy, ease of digestion (no constipation, diarhea or gas/bloating) and an overall sense of well-being.

When foods are improperly combined this allows for food to ferment, putrify, and go rancid. This naturally attracts parasites, yeast mold and fungus.

Three wonderful tools to incorporate in your life in order to properly break down your foods and nourish yourself are to:

Take high quality enzymes with your meals.

Add fermented foods into your diet such as kim chi, cultured vegetables & miso.

Add coconut water kefir or dairy kefir into your daily routine depending on your unique body

Enzymes help break down the food in our bodies. Because the soil is mineral and enzyme deficient here in the U.S. we must supplement with enzymes in order to get the most out of the food. If we grow our own food in mineral rich soil well we might not require enzymes.

Cultured vegetables contain highly potent probiotics which help break down the food as well.

Coconut water kefir or milk kefir  are also superfoods that do wonders for cleansing and restoring balance to the inner eco system.  If you choose dairy kefir the best way to do this is buy obtaining raw organic grass fed milk and making it yourself.

Here is a simple food chart for those whom want to get the most out of their foods:

I have provided two charts one focuses more on fruits/nuts/seeds/veg and the other meats/dairy:

Enzymes: The Vital Keys to Radiant Health

An Enzyme is a protein molecule with electricity running through it. Enzymes are required for all functions in the body system. Some of these functions are blinking, thinking, muscle contraction and the wear and tear on your cells.

When I think of an enzyme rich person I see someone whom is radiating lots of energy & light.  The aura around this person may have a glow to it.

In order for our bodies to function optimally we require:

  1. Oxygen
  2. Living Water
  3. Enzymes

When our bodies are enzyme rich we have a lot of life flowing through our cells.  The four main types of enzymes are amylase, lipase, protease & cellulose.  Then we have two categories of enzymes which are digestive and metabolic.

Amylase enzyme turns carbohydrates into usable energy. When the body is rich in Amylase we have energy and vitality.

Protease enzymes digest protein into amino acids and in turn create healthy hair, skin and bones.

Lipase enzyme converts into essential fatty acids to feed the brain and body with healthy fat at the cellular level.

Cellulose enzyme digests fiber in our bodies assisting the movement of fiber through the colon.

The beautiful thing about enzymes is they actually move stagnant energy out of the body. If one were to fast and cleanse and wanted to accelerate the cleansing and healing process a great idea would be enzyme therapy. Enzymes go into the blood stream when taken on an empty stomach and clean out the undigested carbohydrates, fats & proteins that have caused disease in the body. These undigested food particles ferment go rancid & putrify attracting  parasites, yeast, mold & fungus.

When we clear and clean out the system of this unwanted waste we can reach integrity on a cellular level. Enzymes greatly assist the cleansing and healing process.

The most important part of the healing process is our cellular communication. How we choose to think and feel in each moment will determine the rate of our bodies rapid recovery. The enzymes in our bodies are affected by emotional energy. When we are thinking negatively we are depleting our enzyme reserves. When we are in a positive optimal state of mind we are enriching our enzyme potential. Is your enzyme bank account rich and thriving? 🙂

Next we might take a look at our cellular environment. This is a crucial key to our health and freedom. When we give our cells a healthy environment to communicate and play in they thrive. Enzymes are helpful in handling the stress in our environment. If we are living in a city environment it is a good idea to have enzyme reserves in order to handle the smog, pollution, electromagnetic frequencies, the mass consciousness etc. The environment in which we live includes all that we allow ourselves to experience on a day to day basis. Questions we might ask ourselves could be; what kind of living environment would empower me the most? What changes could I make today in order to have the best cellular environment ever?

Cellular Nutrition is how we are feeding ourselves on the cellular level. When we take in structured living spring water to hydrate our cells well and give our body enzyme rich food to be nourished with we have great potential to live a Vital Life. With enzyme rich food we are assisting our body to run clean and efficient and keep energy flowing through the body system.

Cellular Exercise would include internal and external movement. When we breathe long, slow and deep, rebound and do yoga these things give our internal environment a cleansing bath and nourish us at the cellular level. Internal exercise washes our cells from within and creates a healthy, radiant body without sickness and disease.  This type of movement gives our cells oxygen and allows our body to produce its very own metabolic enzymes and hormones. External movement is a tool to keep the body fluid and moving through life with ease and grace. Both internal and external movement has the ability to give the body tensile strength. Tensile strength is when the smaller muscles & ligaments are elastic and thriving which is vital to cellular integrity.  When this group of muscles and ligaments are strong and healthy the individual creates a lean and healthy body structure.

Enzymes create a cellular resonance of harmony, love & light. They allow stagnant energy to move out and release emotional blockages.

Here are some guidelines to choosing the correct enzyme for different imbalances in the body:

Protease Enzyme Deficiency is linked to Putrefication:

–Bacterial, viral, yeast, fungal infections
–Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Lupus
–PMS, BMS, IBS, MS, Muscular Dystrophy, Crohn’s, Endometriosis, Acne
–Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s
–Depression, Anxiety attacks
–Cancer and tumors
Amylase Enzyme Deficiency is linked to Fermentation:
–Allergies
–Respiratory disorders
–Inflammation and joint problems (e.g., arthritis)
–Gas, Bloating, Weight gain
–Sinus conditions
–Skin eruptions
–Reactions to insect bites and stings
Lipase Enzyme Deficiency Linked to Rancidification:
–Chronic inflammatory conditions
–Psoriasis
–Cardiovascular conditions and plaque in the arteries
–Cellulite
–High blood pressure
–High Cholesterol & Triglycerides
–Fatty Tumors

If one was going through a sickness therapeutic doses of enzymes would be a great idea.  A therapeutic dose would be 5 enzymes, 4 times a day on an empty stomach. An empty stomach would be 1 or more hours before a meal and 2 or more hours after a meal.  Digestive enzymes would be taken with meals to ensure proper digestion.  If one is already feeling vibrant and full of life they may choose to take enzymes with meals whether cooked or raw. They might also take enzymes during a fast or cleanse to reach deep within the cells.

When choosing enzyme supplementation things to be aware of are filler ingredients such as magnesium stearate or talcum. Also are the enzymes proteolysis (meaning will they break down the proteins into amino acids)? Will they thrive in an acid or alkaline environment? What medium were they grown on? Are they plant based and free of pesticides & checked for fungal contamination? Medical Grade Enzymes that are plant based and full spectrum are an optimal choice.

Enzymes give our body electrical energy so that we may thrive and live abundantly through this life. Drink the clean structured water, create a positive living environment, breathe in the life force energy around you, take in the nourishing enzyme rich foods given to us from mother earth, bathe your cells internally with cellular movement & qualify your thoughts so that you may radiate the light you are.
